Harry Jerome Pool Closes – December 31, 2021

At the end of this year the Harry Jerome Recreation Centre will closed while the new Harry Jerome Recreation Centre is built between 2022 and 2025 at the earliest. Here is a link to an article that I wrote on the closure for the North Shore Daily Post called “Over 1,000,000 recreation spots eliminated by early Harry Jerome closure”. The City of North Vancouver blindsided everyone with their decision on this in January 2021. Here is a link to a list of politicians and administrators that you might consider writing to about this.

Masters Swimming Schedules after Harry Jerome Closure

The Harry Jerome Closure will impact all North Shore Masters swimmers and Lane Swimmers. In North and West Vancouver, there are over 300 active Masters Swimmers. This likely makes us the largest swimming group on the North Shore. The number of active Lane Swimmers is as large or larger. Planning for re-allocation of pool time over the next few years is ongoing. If you have suggestions on how this allocation could be handled, you can contact Jaimie Brown and copy me if you like.

Class Withdrawals

Masters and lane swims remain more popular than ever. You are asked help your fellow swimmers by withdrawing from any Class you can’t attend. This really works!

Starting March 15, 2021, if you are registered for a NVRC fitness centre session and you don’t show up, or don’t cancel your spot at least one hour (60 minutes) before the start time, NVRC will consider this a No Show.
If you have three No-Show visits in a week, your account will be suspended online for one week, and you will need to call to make any registrations.

In North Vancouver, you can withdraw in a number of ways (in order of preference):

  • here is link to a short video with detailed instruction on how to do withdraw from a session.
  • In words, login to your account, click/touch My Info, click/touch your name not the check box, scroll down to and open Schedules, click/touch Switch to List View, and find the course from which you would like to withdraw, scroll right, click/touch Actions and Withdraw.
  • email info@nvrc.ca before 5 pm the day before your session at the latest.
  • contact the NVRC at 604-987-Play (7529)
  • If you are swimming at Harry Jerome, you can contact Khosro at khosro_38@yahoo.com before 5 pm the day before your session. Warning: Late callers may be subject to public shaming!

In West Vancouver, click/touch here for instructions for withdrawal. I couldn’t confirm whether the withdrawal process is working using my account.

Swim Parkas arrived in May

Over 30 North Shore Masters swim parkas were sold during our campaign in April and delivered in May. Thanks to everyone who got behind this effort. This what mine looks like.

There are one or two XL parkas available. Please contact us if you are interested buying one.
