New Year’s Day Gathering after practice Seymour Room Harry Jerome
A small group of swimmers gathered in the Seymour to socialize and share snacks. This event was our second attempt at getting members of the swimming community together socially. All agreed that they liked the idea was good and they enjoyed being together socially. This year we started organizing earlier and used the SignUpGenius App to anticipate interest. In the end, we had about the same same number of sign ups as last year taking into account two people who were sick or up all night. The fact that the event has been held on New Year’s Day may dampen the spirits of some for more festivities. It has been suggested that we try a different time or venue for next year’s event. A big thank you to Harry Jerome staff for facilitating our use of the Seymour room for this event.

North Shore Masters Swim Meet Update
I met with Khosro, the MSABC Director of Competitions and Meet Manager for the North Shore Masters Swim Meet, for coffee last week. We talked at length about Masters Swimming in BC, North Shore Masters as a swim club under MSABC, potential changes that may impact how masters swimming is organized in BC and the North Shore Masters Swim meet.
To me the most interesting part of the meeting was Khosro’s proposal that the North Shore Masters swim meet be hosted at Hollyburn Country Club on its normal date the weekend after Thanksgiving in 2026.
The rationale for this is that time and effort will be required to get the new Harry Jerome Pool qualified to host sanctioned meets and Hollyburn is interested hosting a masters meet to get experience running masters competitions. Khosro will assist Chena to host a non-sanctioned meet in the October time frame to facilitate New Harry Jerome pool qualification.
The meet will be called the North Shore Masters Sprint Meet and all being well, North Shore Masters will host the meet in the New Harry Jerome pool in 2027. If Hollyburn is satisfied with their hosting experience, the thinking is that there is a time slot that is currently not occupied in the Masters schedule between the Chilliwack meet and the Provincials that Hollyburn could fit into (Late March or early April). Last season North Shore Masters fill this slot.
It’s happening! Three North Shore Masters swimmers have signed up for the Veron Meet in February. At least two us Scott N and I will be trying the 800 IM challenge. In addition there are three triple crown events. I have entered the 800, 400 and 200 IM version.
