English Bay Meet Results

Ali and Khosro

The English Bay meet was the second sold out meet in a row. Some of our swimmers missed the meet because of the early sell out. That said, we had two swimmers (Mike and Antoine), two officials (Khosro and Ali), and number of North Shore Masters alumni at the meet (Don C, Chantal L, Tanis S). Betty Brussel, the 99 year old phenom was in attendance again. Khosro and Ali C. had big roles in the meet. Khosro was involved in running the timing system, recruiting and guiding the officials. Ali was a starter for the first half of the meet. Thanks to Rob Traynor and his assistants, swimmers were treated to 8 hours of video coverage on YouTube. Here is a sample from Antoine’s 100 Free.

Locally designed and Made Swim Parkas

Met the creators of the Original sPARKA at the English Bay Swim meet. It is described as:

Warm, protective, and convenient. The sPARKA is made with a wind and waterproof shell fabric and a soft fleece lining. It warms you before and after swimming. It features:

  • two deep pockets for snacks
  • one inside pocket for a phone
  • soft cuffs that glide over your hands
  • a fleece-lined hood that contours your face
  • a full-length two-way zipper for more leg room
  • ribbing elements at the hem to hold in heat
  • two looks ’cause it’s reversible

It is a garment that you can wear anywhere comfortably. More Info

North Shore Sport Awards Results

The North Shore Sport Awards were held on Tuesday March 28 at 7:00 in the Atrium of the West Vancouver Community Centre. As always there were very inspirational stories of achievement by North Shore athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers. This year awards were given for achievements in 2020 and 2023. It was no surprise that Connor Bedard won the Youth Male Athlete award after his performance at the World Junior Championships. David Hawkshaw, an NFL referee, received an Official award for 2020 and 2023. Then there was Georgia Simmerling who competed in three different sports in three different Olympics. She won the Comeback award in 2020 and the Senior Female Athlete award in 2023. Masters swimming was well represented in the awards as well. Khosro, the man who is everywhere, won the 2020 Community Sport Volunteer award. Debbie Collingwood and Cullen Goodyear won 2023 Master Athlete awards. Hugh Wilson, a North Shore Masters alumnus, won the 2020 Coach award in another sport. Special thanks to Coleen Gray-Hewitt and Darcie Montgomery for their efforts in organizing the North Shore Sport Awards.
