North Shore Masters Spring Sprint Meet – Saturday April 6, 2025 (New Date)

This meet has just been added to the 2025 meet schedule to help satisfy the larger than expected meet participation demand experienced this year.

As in October, Chena will be hosting the meet. Khosro will be the meet manager. It is a great opportunity for our swimmers to participate in a meet close to home! If you are registered with SwimBC, all you need to do is mark your calendar for February 17 at 8:00 am and register early. If you want to participate but haven’t registered with SwimBC, you must contact Khosro at [email protected] as soon as possible to work out your SwimBC membership!

We will also be looking for timers and stroke and turn officials. If you are interested please let me know.

Victoria Long Course Meet Results

Victoria NSM Team

The Victoria Long Course Meet was held on January 25. Only Georgina and Salvador successfully registered before the meet filled up. I was admitted via the waitlist. The meet was well attended, well run and had a good vibe about it. On top of that there were over 30 BC, Canadian and World records set! North Shore Masters finished 13 out of 27 teams and had a good time!

English Bay Love to Swim Meet Results

NSM Men’s Relay Team

This was a surprising meet. The Legacy and Royal Masters placed first and second, followed by English Bay and White Rock the perennial favorites. North Shore Masters had 6 swimmers and great meet. We had a strong team that won most individual events and both relays that we participated in. We, also, participated in the Pink Flamingo event for the first time in many years. Great Fun! The team broke 10 club records. Provincial records may also have fallen to our group. We don’t know yet. Congratulations to everyone! North Shore Masters Swim Society

The recent changes in Swimming Canada, Swim BC and on the North Shore is forcing us to look at options to ensure the future of the North Shore Masters as a swim club. Since I last wrote on this topic, North Shore Masters hosted its 12th very successful meet with the support of Chena and is set to host another meet this season. Contrary to the messaging that we received at the beginning of the season, the type of organizational arrangement that North Shore Masters have with NVRC falls within Swimming Canada rules and there are many examples of this type of arrangement across BC and the country. It seems that the management of SwimBC wants to limit or eliminate this type of arrangement even though it is within the Swimming Canada rules. The new Swimming Canada system doesn’t seem to support this third option very well or at all based on our experiences getting our club registered this year. The other issue that we have is that fees are rising rapidly. In the past, these fees have been paid by one individual out of his own pocket. This approach is no longer sustainable because of the rising costs.

As a result, a group of us have started looking at our options including forming a registered society. In the last few weeks, we have had meetings and conversations with a number of people and shared the information that we have accumulated to date. It is not clear yet what the best path forward is. One thing that we are planning to do is create a survey to give swimmers an opportunity to voice their opinions on how to proceed. If you are interested in joining the conversation let me know.

Had a three fly day at the English Bay Meet!
