Karen Scholfield Retires March 6

North Shore Masters would like to congratulate Karen Schofield for her forty years of service to the North Vancouver Rec Commission and thank her for her ongoing support of Masters Swimming. Karen has been Facility and Program Supervisor at Harry Jerome for a number of years. She, also, performed a similar role at Ron Andrews before that. In 2010, Karen championed our first Masters Swim Meet on the North Shore under the North Shore Masters Swim Club name. This year Karen, again, championed our 11th North Shore Masters meet in October 2021. It was the first Masters Meet held in Canada since the start of the pandemic. When Masters Swimming was cancelled due to the pandemic shortly after reopening in October 2020, Karen helped find a way to reopen safely within the Public Health Guidelines. Many other parks and recreation organizations in the lower mainland shut done their masters programs for the duration. I think that Karen was one of the first people to recognize the benefits of organized swim training for adults. Thank you Karen! I am personally very grateful that Masters Swimming came along about the time that my knees were giving out! If you would like to personally thank Karen, you can talk to her at Harry Jerome, call her at 604-983-6447 or send her an email at karen.scholfield@nvrc.ca before she leaves on March 6.

NVRC Fitness Centres Returning to Drop-in Admission

In response to the latest public health order, all fitness centres, book-a-visit fitness classes and public swim & skate sessions will revert to normal capacity from Thursday, February 17. Fitness centres will return to drop-in admission with no pre-booking required.

Spring programs will begin at normal capacity.

Note: Masters swimming still requires pre-registration and Lane Swimming continues to be drop-in.

Proof Vaccine and mask wearing requirements remain in place for all activities.

NVRC Waitlists Moving to Email System

From February 23, NVRC will begin processing waitlists by email instead of by phone.

Each day, customers will be contacted by email if a spot on a waitlist has become available for them. The email will be sent to the email address on your account in our registration system. This new system will help us to contact you more quickly.

If the spot is not confirmed by 1:00pm the following day, it will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.

To ensure you don’t miss your waitlist spot, log-in to your NVRC registration account to check that the email address on your account is current. A how-to video for this is available on our registration support page. You can also call us at 604-987-7529.
